Facilitators
Core Development Training is a Houston-based nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering student-athletes by merging elite athletic training with academic preparation, mentorship, and life skills development. Founded by Emmanuel Gatling in 2018, the organization operates on three core principles: Education is Fundamental, Sports Build Opportunity, and Mentorship Matters. Through a combination of sport-specific coaching, tutoring, career exposure, leadership development, and financial literacy, Core Development Training prepares youth not just for success in athletics but for life beyond the game. The goal is to help young athletes uncover their full potential and develop a mindset for long-term success.

Emmanuel Gatling Founder & President
Emmanuel Gatling is a passionate chemical engineer, former Division I football player, and dedicated youth mentor committed to empowering student-athletes through a balanced focus on academics and athletics. A proud alumnus of Mississippi State University, he walked on to the Bulldogs’ football team, earning a scholarship and starting position as a linebacker, while simultaneously completing a degree in Chemical Engineering … a dual achievement that defied expectations
Following graduation, Emmanuel pursued his calling by founding Core Development Training in June 2018. His vision was ignited by a dream—prompted by his faith—that student-athletes often prioritized sports without viable career alternatives, leaving many vulnerable once athletics ended. Through this non-profit, he bridges the gap between sport and academic readiness by providing elite athletic training, college-prep mentorship, tutoring, and career exposure. The mission emphasizes redefining success and equipping athletes with financial literacy, leadership skills, and mental resilienceDon’t worry about sounding professional. Sound like you. There are over 1.5 billion websites out there, but your story is what’s going to separate this one from the rest. If you read the words back and don’t hear your own voice in your head, that’s a good sign you still have more work to do.
Under Emmanuel’s leadership, Core Development has guided numerous athletes to Division I programs in diverse majors—pre-med, aerospace engineering, chemical engineering—solidifying its reputation for fostering both physical prowess and intellectual growth f Emmanuel’s ethos, “Uncover what lies within,” captures his belief that with will, support, exposure, and confidence, athletes can unlock their full potential.
He credits his achievements to a foundation of faith instilled by his parents, Alphonzo and Theresa Gatling, and the steadfast encouragement of his wife, Quin, the VP of Operations at Core Development. Their collective drive ensures the organization’s growth and deepening impact in the Houston community and beyond.
Emmanuel Gatling is more than a coach—he is a visionary who transforms ambition into achievement, ensuring student-athletes thrive both on the field and in life.
